Privacy Policy

Last updated October 23, 2026

Bookbag is a little home for books that catch your eye. Your privacy matters, so here’s a simple explanation of how the app works.

No tracking. No telemetry.

Bookbag does not collect or store your personal information. The app has no tracking, analytics, or telemetry.

ISBN scans

When you scan a book’s ISBN barcode, Bookbag reads the barcode and sends the ISBN to Hardcover to retrieve book details. No photo is saved or sent as part of this lookup.

Cover recognition

When you scan a book cover, Bookbag uses Apple’s on-device Foundation Models to identify a possible book match. This image processing happens on your device. Bookbag then sends the identified title and author to Hardcover to retrieve book details—not the cover image.

Camera images

Bookbag uses the camera to read barcodes and recognize book covers. It does not capture or retain photos. Images used during scanning are processed temporarily and are not saved to your photo library or retained by Bookbag.

Book details from Hardcover

Hardcover is a third-party service that provides book information. ISBNs and title-and-author queries sent to Hardcover are handled under its own privacy practices. This policy describes Bookbag’s behavior and does not make claims about Hardcover’s data retention or logging.
