Design Process
I took a holistic look at the entire WooPayments experience to identify gaps where we could do a better job of communicating deposit status to our merchants. Once I had those placements defined I started design by leveraging existing components within the design system to rapidly prototype together a few solutions that could be used to source feedback from the team.
This early feedback helped to quickly clarify the project scope and allow work to start on high-fidelity prototypes that could be usability tested with existing WooPayments merchants. Design work for this project touched nearly every screen within WooPayments, allowing us to carve out legacy elements that weren't contributing to the user journeys and replace them with components that provide more value to merchants.
Changes were documented in Figma and I held daily discussions with engineering on implementation details to avoid knowledge gaps during handoff. Interactions were tested and refined in Figma with feedback from all stakeholders, while I took on a QA role for staging builds to ensure the final experience was translated seamlessly to production.
The revised experience was rolled out to more than 4 million merchants, showing a gradual uptick in adoption of Instant Deposits and increased business revenue for WooPayments. Beyond the business successes this project also set the standard for how I like to collaborate on design projects and laid the foundation for future success during my time at Automattic.
